Suspense, Murder and Intrigue at Its Finest. If there’s one thing I can’t get enough of, it’s “whodunit” novels. The Blue Journal is one of those novels that leaves you guessing right up until the last minute. You never saw it coming and that’s the best part of these novels. The Blue Journal, written by L.T. Graham who is the pen name of a very well-known New-England based suspense writer. We follow Detective Anthony Walker as he finally gets his chance to shine when a murder happens in an affluent community.
The Blue Journal takes us on rollercoaster ride of deception, sex, affairs, new beginnings, and a private journal titled Sexual Rites. Detective Anthony Walker used to be a New York City cop and it is no wonder that at times he feels like his life is just passing by. He lives in a community where not much happens. That is, until Elizabeth Knoebel is found dead from a gunshot wound on her bed, dressed in lingerie. This is the makings for an affair gone wrong, but is that what it really is? When Elizabeth’s private diary, Sexual Rites, is discovered, the investigation is turned upside down. All of a sudden Detective Anthony Walker has a list full of suspects and all of the excitement that was missing from his life.
Once all these new characters are brought in, we finally understand how serious and damaging Sexual Rites can be. Elizabeth had sexual escapades with a lot of important figures in town — other people’s with husbands, and even with women! She had no boundaries for the things that she did or even the things that she said, and it seems that that is what led to her death. Detective Anthony Walker soon enlists the help of a psychotherapist Randi Conway, who it turns out was seeing Elizabeth as a patient. Conway seems to be connected with not only Elizabeth Knoebel, but also all of the suspects. This whole investigation is a tangled web that Detective Anthony Walker is going to need to untangle to capture the murderer before another crime is committed.
As the book progresses, the anticipation builds up to a climax. What you think you may know turns out to be false. The twist at the end of the book will have you scratching your head while laughing. The least expected person is the one responsible for the murder and it seems that L.T. Graham has pulled the curtain over all of our eyes. I love endings like that because just when you think that everything is resolved you turn around and are surprised.
Do you know what the best thing is about finishing this book? That the author is working on the next Detective Anthony Walker novel! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I am ecstatic for the next book to come out so that I can sit back and see what Detective Anthony Walker will help solve next.
The Blue Journal by L.T. Graham is published by Seventh Street Books and is available for sale in bookstores and online everywhere. Make sure to get your copy and keep your eyes out for the second installment!
L. T. Graham not only deftly weaves an intricate plot that keeps you guessing, but he also presents two antagonists, really—the victim and the killer. The victim, Elizabeth Knoebel, leaves a trail of psychological destruction in her wake, the effects of which continue to wreck havoc on her prey even in death. Her killer, in equal measure, manipulates and deceives, pitting suspect against suspect, and putting up enough barricades to frustrate the surefooted Walker.
Graham delves deep into the psyche of the wealthy enclave, exposing lives and marriages tattered and twisted by deceit and lies, arrogance and insecurity. The Blue Journal is a riveting and unrelenting look into the darker foibles of the human heart.
The Blue Journal is a taut, twisty, and terrific psychological thriller about what happens when the curtain is pulled back on affluent suburbia. Featuring a terrific hero who’s like Robert Parker’s Jesse Stone on steroids, it will leave you closing the blinds even while wondering if anyone is trying to peek through them. Brilliantly conceived and wondrously timely.
This gripping mystery, the first in a projected series from the pseudonymous Graham, introduces Lt. Det. Anthony Walker, who recently left the NYPD to spend more time with his family in Connecticut, only to have his wife move out and ask for a divorce. Devoted to his new job on the local police force because it’s all he has left, Anthony buries himself in the investigation of the shooting murder of Elizabeth Knoebel.
His only clues are an unidentified gray car that sped away from the Knoebel house and an encoded diary describing in explicit detail Elizabeth’s many sexual encounters. When decoded, the diary reveals that among Elizabeth’s predatory conquests were women in her therapy group as well as some of their husbands participating in parallel sessions. Both groups are led by psychologist Randi Conway, who invokes patient confidentiality to avoid answering Anthony’s questions. The action builds to an exciting and unexpected conclusion.
Had a hard time putting the book down!
The Blue Journal is a very exciting mystery novel that could take place in the suburbs of any American city. The character development is excellent. The plot is exciting. I could not put it down. I will look forward to the next Anthony Walker mystery.
Well written and engaging. The characters are real and the plot holds a similar intrigue as murder mysteries of days gone by. A very visual read.
Enticing, fast moving, edge of seat suspense… I recommend it to all who like murder mysteries.
This book has it all! Murder, sex, power, romance, intrigue! An affluent wife named Elizabeth Knoebel in CT is found shot in the head in her bed naked. There is no evidence of robbery or sexual assault. The wife is part of a therapy group for unhappy wives. Most of these women’s husbands are in a similar group with the same female therapist, Randi Conway. When it is learned that Elizabeth was writing a book chronicalling her sexual exploits with various men and women suddenly everyone in these therapy groups are suspects. Det. Walker is handed the case and he has to tread lightly because he’s the hired help and most of the suspects are upper society with connections. It’s a very interesting plot and it keeps you guessing until the end. I really liked Det. Walker and Dr. Conway and hope they return in other stories.
I loved a good mystery that keeps me guessing. This one kept me guessing to the very end. Elizabeth wasn’t a very nice person and the more that is revealed, the more suspects there are. And the more that the reader hates her. She’s one of those murder victims that you can’t help but have some sympathy for the killer. I thought characters, too. Hope to read more Detective Anthony Walker novels and I hope to see more of Randi Conway as well.
Wow what a great mystery/thriller. I can honestly say that this is one book that I did not figure out who the killer was before the author did the big reveal. My opinion on who it was jumped back and forth throughout the whole book and boy was I way off. I found myself laughing at the group sessions as they were very easy to imagine.
This is a great book and I now wish that I owned every book from this author. L. T. Graham was able to bring the characters to life so that they could be any person walking down the street. I did not feel like the story veered off course and I did not get bored while reading the story. That is always a big plus for me.
I give this book 5 stars because I have not enjoyed a book this much in a long time. Most books I can easily figure out the plot and get bored before I finish the book, not so with this one.
Wow… just finished this book and had to write a review for so many reasons, beginning with the story itself. It’s a suspenseful look at the danger zone of marriage at mid-life, spotlighting the pitfalls of giving into temptation as men grow older. The villains are especially troubling because they look like everyday people who you wouldn’t normally suspect: a spectacularly beautiful and eerily manipulative woman and, well…
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys compelling, intriguing mysteries with a page-turning pace.
Couldn’t put it down!! What a great read!!
Non-stop thrills, page-turner from start to finish. Murder, sex and mystery. What’s better than that!?!
It lays bare our innermost desires and speaks to the consequences of acting on those impulses. I wasn’t familiar with LT Graham before but I am now – can’t wait for the next book.
I love a good mystery and LT Graham nailed it!! An exciting read that’s fun and sexy. When’s the next one?!
Amazing. I read thrillers and exotic novels often, but this new offering threw me for a loop. Could not put it down and now rereading for the sheer pleasure. Get it, read it – and read it again. Don’t know who this LT Graham is, but I want more.
Scintillating page turner; one mystery begets the next, keeping the reader in suspense and hungry for answers. They arrive, at times in shocking fashion. Smart, taut and compellingly written.
What a fantastic read, I couldn’t put it down. A detective mystery of the best kind, intrigue, sex, characters you love and hate, and an exciting conclusion. I hope we hear more from this author.
This book starts out running and never slows down. It is fast paced and sexy. You are drawn in quite quickly and either love or hate the characters. This book isn’t to be missed. I was so riveted from the get go! I hope there is more coming from L.T. Graham
What a great surprise-out of the blue comes The Blue Journal -the author is not well known but the book has all the marks of a seasoned, professional suspense writer. The most realistic presentation of the personal conflicts and the emotional betrayals is a riveting and disturbing writer’s tour de force… Be prepared for a sleepless night if you start reading this book in the evening. A bull’s eye…
The Blue Journal was referred by a great friend who always finds interesting books. I found this tale of familiar characters gripping from start to finish. The deception/dishonesty/mystery surrounding the string of events intertwined amongst several married couples made for a terrific read. Provocative characters, fast paced story telling, and a healthy dose of erotic encounters combine to make this a first class story / head and shoulders above similar genre works. Hoping there is more from LT Graham and another tale of Detective Walker.
Spellbinding! Who knew a Connecticut therapy group could be a fertile ground for sexual conquests. This gripping novel, full of exciting twists and an unexpected end was great for blustery winter day!
As someone who is a very selective reader, this book drew me in from page one and kept my interest peaked throughout. The characters became people I knew, the problems in marriage were strikingly real and the influences of the outside world and how they affect us was right on the mark.
L.T.Graham is a talented and gifted writer with great insight.
The Blue Journal is a captivating blend of suspense and erotica. This page-turner is a spot-on examination of intimate lives and suburban morality wrapped inside a police procedural thriller. And I guarantee that the resolution will blow you away!
